Centerton Arkansas Historical Information

Centertons history is long and full. It was named Centerton as it was the midpoint in the county, and another area in Arkansas already bore the name Center Point.

The town came into being in about 1898, well after the Civil war had ended however its history includes some lore from the Civil war era as well.

It was reported that a caltalpa tree, full grown and a large size near Centerton was used as a lookout by the Union army just prior to the start of the "Battle of Pea Ridge".

By 1907, this was a shopping and shipping center had come to pass and the Mitchell and Sammons general store had a large stock of everything that the woman or man might need for the home, farm or orchard.

The town also included a blacksmith shop, a drug store, lumberyard, the Bank, and E. H. Fair and Co., land agents.

There were four apple evaporators; a large new vinegar plant where they made apple juice to be tanked to the Rogers Vinegar plant. There were also several places buying apples with storage sheds and many apples were grown in the area.
